Heather became professionally involved in horticulture in 1973 and has owned and operated Perennial Pleasures since 1978. Her training began early; she grew up on a dairy farm where her family raised most of their own food. She studied landscape technology at BCIT and later certified as a landscape designer. She now focuses primarily on design and consulting with an emphasis on sustainability, livability, plant health, and using our resources wisely. Several gardens she has created and or influenced have been featured on North Shore Natural gardens tours.

Heather has been involved with removing invasive plants and restoring the native habitat in Mahon Park, and has supported and helped Gerry MacPherson establish the garden between Brooksbank School and Loutet Farm, fondly referred to by the local’s as “Gerry’s Garden.” She has taught workshops for the City of Richmond, North Shore Recycling Program and continuing education courses for School District #45. Heather is available to speak to garden clubs and at environmental awareness events.
